Contents of the map window

The central area in easymap is occupied by the map window. An empty workbook already contains a sheet. The map window can contain several sheets, which form the basis for the insertion of maps, analyses and further design elements.

The figure shows the contents of the easymap map window. It shows different possibilities for nesting and summarizing elements within an easymap map sheet:

Note: The contents in the map window are visible via the control window Contents and can be edited from there in the Properties. If you move the mouse over the elements in the control window, they will be highlighted in the map window. You can also delete objects that have already been inserted in the same places. The control window can be opened via the tabs at the bottom left of the program window or via the menu Window > Control window > Content.

Insert map layers and other objects

There are several ways to insert maps and other content into an empty hand.

Inserting via the control windows

In easymap it works quickly and comfortably via the control window. You can find them either in the left area of the program window or open them via the menu Window > Control window.

  • base maps such as postal code areas, municipalities and topographies (cities, streets etc.) can be dragged from the control window base maps per Drag&Drop onto the sheet in the map window. Or you can use the context menu for the base map and insert the map layer into an existing or new map.
  • Objects such as legends, labels or reports from the control window Objects also by Drag&Drop on a sheet or (with Ctrl key pressed) on a map. The objects can of course also be inserted here via their context menu on any map.

Note: Objects behave differently depending on whether they are inserted into the sheet or into a map. You can find more details in the descriptions of the map object.

Insert via the Insert menu

Use the submenu items of the Insert menu to add different content to the sheet or insert new sheets and maps.

When inserting objects, the mouse cursor changes to a cross in the map window. After that you can simply click on a place in the sheet and the element will be inserted there. However, you can also immediately determine the size and position of the newly inserted object by dragging a rectangle.
