Map
The map represents an area on the sheet where geography related objects can be inserted. The map is connected to a section of the map that determines the visible area. A clip map is also usually defined on the basis of a map and then applies uniformly to the entire content of the map.
Inserting a new map
Unlike most other objects, a map cannot be created directly from the control window Objects. You have the following options for creating a new map:
- Drag a layer from the control window base maps onto an empty area of a sheet or press the CTRL key while releasing the map layers over an existing map on the sheet.
- Use the command Insert into > New map in in the context menu of the control window base maps.
- Use from the main menu Insert the command New map.
In all cases, easymap automatically creates a new map object and inserts the desired layers into this map.
Add more layers to an existing map
If the sheet already contains a map, the new layers can be inserted either as additional layers in the existing map or as a new map on the sheet.
- Use Drag&Drop to drag a layer from the control window base maps to the existing map on the open sheet.
- Use the Insert into > Map xy command in the context menu of the control window base maps.
Content of maps
Usually Layers are inserted within the map, which contain the displayed elements themselves. Also road maps and georeferenced raster maps are always inserted into maps and cannot lie directly on the sheet.
However, other objects can also be inserted into a map. The special feature in contrast to inserting on a sheet is that these objects are bound to a fixed geographical position.
So if the map section changes for any reason, e.g. after clip mapen, these objects keep their position relative to the other elements on the map. Objects on the sheet, on the other hand, always maintain their position relative to the sheet. You can drag an object into the map by dragging it from the Object window onto a map with Drag&Drop while holding down Ctrl.
Adjust map view
By default, easymap adjusts the map section for you so that the entire content is visible. In individual cases it may be useful to be able to define the displayed section in a targeted manner. The following commands from the menu View support you in this process:
- Fit all levels: Change the map section so that the entire content is visible.
- Zoom within the selected map: With the usual zoom functions Zoom functions you can define and fix the map section - how it works here.
Note: The two functions can only be used if the map is marked (recognizable by the hatched frame around the map or by a blue highlight in the control window content).

Caption and Editability
Caption |
Specify a name here to be able to find the element more quickly in the Contents control window. For analyses, maps or sheets, you should use a name that contains the topic. EasyMap assigns generic names for new elements (e.g. map 1). If you do not change these, you will later have great difficulty in finding certain content in workbookn. |
Elements Selectable |
If the selection here is no, you cannot select the elements individually and change their properties. |
Elements Moveable |
If the selection is set to No, you cannot move the elements of the layer or map. |
Comment |
Enter here a comment for the display of the workbook in EasyMap Xplorer. The comment is also displayed in EasyMap as a tooltip in the control window Contents. |
Visibility | |
General |
Here you can control the visibility of objects and elements. |
Alternating visibility group |
Set a group for mutual visibility here. If the element is to be made equally visible with other elements, you must use the same name for the visibility group. |
Simultaneous visibility group |
Set a group for simultaneous visibility here. If the element is to be made mutually visible with other elements, you must use the same name for the visibility group. |
Location | |
Reference Point |
Select the point from which the distances of the object are to be displayed. |
Offset Left |
In conjunction with the reference point, the distance in cm from the left. |
Offset from Top |
In conjunction with the reference point, the distance in cm from the top. |
Size | |
Width |
Width of the object in cm. |
Height |
Height of the object in cm. |
projection | |
projection |
Defines which projection method is to be used to display the map. Only projection methods that are valid for the entire geographical area of the map can be selected here. If a new map is inserted whose coordinate system is already based on a projection, EasyMap uses this projection method. For maps based on geographic coordinates selects |
Longitude and Latitude System
Show Lat/Lon Grid |
Specify here whether a grid of longitude and latitude circles is to be displayed. By default, no grid is visible. |
Grid Spacing (Degrees) |
Set the distance between each grid line to degree. This point is only offered if you have previously set the Display Grid to yes. |
Clip Map | |
Include Other Objects |
Specifies how non-geographic objects inserted into the map should behave when clip mapping. These are e.g. legends, tables or texts, which are within the map object. No: The clip map has no effect on such objects. They are also displayed outside the clip map. Yes (do not display objects at all or at all): Objects that are completely outside the clip map are not displayed. Otherwise, such objects are displayed completely. Yes (intersect objects): The objects are graphically intersected (clipped) with the clip map. |
Border | |
Color |
Specifies the color in which the frame around an object is to be drawn. You can specify the color using the color selection field or directly as HTML color value. If no color is specified, no frame is displayed. |
Width |
If a frame is displayed around the object, the width of this frame can be set here. |
Shadow Color |
Specifies the color in which a shadow representation of the object is to be drawn. You can specify the color using the color selection field or directly as HTML color value. If no color is specified, no shadow is displayed. |
Shadow Spacing |
If a shadow is displayed to the object, the distance or width of this shadow can be set here. |
Background | |
Fill |
Define the background of your element here. You can specify the color or the fill effect using the Color Selection Box or directly as HTML color value. |
Commands
You can right-click on an object in the control window Contents or on a selected object in the map window to open its context menu. This offers some actions that can be performed on this object.
Transfer Selection to |
Transfers the current selection geographically to another object. Details... |
Visible |
Shows whether the object is visible and allows switching the visibility. |
Order |
Here you can change the selected element in the character sequence. Another option is to drag and drop the selected element within the content view. |
Align |
Aligns several objects flush or aligns an object within its parent object. Details... |
Show Layer of Locking |
This command reinserts any deleted layer locks. This allows you to see the different blocks on the map, or to hide them if necessary. For more information on locks, see here. |
change base map... |
This command does the same as the command change base maps... in the menu Extras. |
clip map (map ...) |
Provides commands to create and delete a clip map on this map. |
Fit all Layers |
Sets the map section so that all contained layers are visible. As a rule, you do not have to trigger this extra. However, if you have added more layers to an existing map or zoomed in on the map, this may be necessary. The command is a DeepL access for the functions: Zoom within the selected map and General view. |
Copy |
Copy the object (if necessary with all subobjects) to the clipboard to paste it elsewhere. The object can be inserted in other applications as a graphic, or inserted in EasyMap as a copy of this object using the Insert command. |
Paste |
Pastes the contents of the clipboard into this object as a child object. |
Delete |
Deletes the selected element. (See also: delete objects) |
Rename |
Changes the content view to an edit mode to give the object a new name. (This can also be achieved by clicking on an object that has already been marked.) |
Properties... |
Opens a properties dialog in which you can edit the Properties of the selected object. If several objects are selected, many properties can also be changed simultaneously for these objects. |
