Table types
easymap knows different data tables, these are also differentiated by color in the control window data.
External Data
External data can be imported or linked from various sources (e.g. Excel, Access, text file) into easymap.
- When import external data, easymap saves a copy of the data in easymap workbook.
- In case of a link of external data, easymap only establishes a connection to the data source. easymap reads the current data on demand (for the first time after establishing the link; then every time a workbook is opened and after executing one of the commands to update the data).
How to import or link data in easymap you can find out here.
Differences between imported and linked data
Imported data | Linked data | |
---|---|---|
Automatic update | No | Yes |
Copy of the data in the map folder | Yes | No |
File size of the map folder | possibly very large: depending on the amount of imported data | small |
Access to data source required |
No: No more after the import |
Yes: first when creating the shortcut, then each time the map folder is opened and to update the opened map folder. |
Data Update | possible in easymap | only possible at the data source |
Import from the clipboard | Yes | No |
Internal data
Internal data is defined as all tables from queries, work tables and structural data from the territory organization, geographical data from base maps, and tables with analysis results.
Geographic Data
Geographic data are included in the map bases and are available at any time without import or linking. For all map layers of type area texts, areas and cities a table view of the geographical data can be opened. In this table window the geographical data can be viewed, edited and exported. You can open a geographical data table by double-clicking in control window Data or via control window Contents, command Display table in the context menu of the respective layer.
Geographic data are e.g. area numbers, area names, color, area. The column Subareas indicates the number of subareas that make up an area. This can be used, for example, to check how many non-continuous sections a postal code area, a county or a sales area consists of. The Visible column shows which areas are contained in an island display. The Marked column indicates marked elements.
Analysis Results
An easymap analysis is always displayed graphically as a thematic map. In the background, however, easymap has determined analysis results (e.g. classified data, calculated sums, determined symbol sizes). easymap can also display such analysis results as a table. To open a table of analysis results, right-click the analysis in the Control Panel Contents or Analyses and select the command Open Results Table from the context menu.
Structural Data
is used to store and manage the data on the territory structures. More information on territory structures can be found here.
Note: In all tables with internal data, no columns can be deleted and no new columns can be inserted (no calculations). To open a table with internal data, you can also use the Control window Data or the menu Data (command Administrate).
Note: Further fundamental differences between imported and linked data arise when these data are used as structural data in the context of a area organization.
