Charts

Diagrams are graphical representations of data and facts. In relation to a map, diagrams represent a quantitative statement for defined area units. Different chart types can be used depending on the purpose of the map.

easymap offers a range of chart analyses that can display your data in relation to each other:

Chart analyses can be created area or location based. When displaying the location, the charts can be placed on the map using the area number or coordinates, in case coordinates are included in the data.

Data of the same dimension can be compared with each other in diagrams. Pie charts are particularly suitable for the representation of proportions, less so for the comparison of absolute values. Column and bar charts are more suitable for comparing absolute values.

Note: In contrast to other analyses, only number columnsare offered when selecting the data columns.

Coverting the Chart Type

You can change the type and subtype of the graph (change between types pie chart, column/bar graph, count graph), e.g. you can directly convert pie sector graph to bar graphs, stacked.... To do this, go to the control window Contents or Analyses in the context menu of the diagram analysis. There you are offered the different diagram types with the option Convert. Most of the settings will be applied if existing settings are still relevant for the new diagram type.

Note: When converting to Unit Charts, you should check the value for Value per Symbol in the Details section of the properties, as this value cannot be determined automatically and may be chosen unfavorably.
